Recently, I had the opportunity to attend Cisco Live! Europe held in Berlin. Cisco Live! is always an exciting event to go to and this year was no different. While there are plenty of vendor booths and events, the primary benefit to attending is education. Between the breakout sessions, DevNet Zone activities, hallway chats, and great relationship building opportunities, there are many opportunities for attendees to increase their technical knowledge.
Since I have worked with applying NETCONF and YANG technology to achieve network programmability by leveraging the data model-driven paradigm for nearly a decade, I always keep an eye out for anything related to the topics of programmability and data models when I attend technical conferences. With every conference that I attend, I see a greater awareness of network programmability and a desire to implement it among the people I rub shoulders with at the conference.
While at Cisco Live! Europe, I had the opportunity to present several times in the DevNet Zone on achieving a programmable network by making use of NETCONF and YANG. It was a great way to share my experience and the basics of the technology we live and breathe in. The sessions were well attended and well received based on the feedback that I received.
I am constantly amazed at how often someone will stop me in the hall or after a presentation and ask – Are you the person from the training videos? While it is personally satisfying to be recognized, my 15 minutes of fame, it is even more satisfying to know that the ConfD training video series which includes in-depth tutorials on NETCONF and YANG is being utilized to increase the knowledge of those professionals I engage with week after week. If you haven’t seen the ConfD training video series yet, it is a great way to both learn the fundamentals of NETCONF and YANG as well as form a firm foundation of knowledge about using and applying ConfD. Cisco Live! U.S. is right around the corner and I will be talking on the topic of “Trends in SDN and NFV” including marketplaces. Attendees will learn why these trends are making network programmability more important to implement. I hope to see you there!
