STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN and PLEASANTON, CALIFORNIA – June 30, 2010 – Tail-f Systems and WebNMS, a division of ZOHO Corp, today announced the results of a joint development project in which WebNMS has integrated Tail-f Systems’ ConfM software, allowing WebNMS to support the IETF-standard Network Configuration Protocol (NETCONF). With Tail-f Systems’ industry leading technology, WebNMS is able to meet the growing customer demand for the powerful configuration management capabilities defined by the NETCONF standard.
“Tail-f Systems’ ConfM product allows us to rapidly add full NETCONF support to our product offering,” said Eric Wegner for WebNMS, a division of ZOHO Corp. “We are excited to make NETCONF available to our customers who are building next generation EMS/NMS applications. NETCONF, being XML based, makes device integration easier than SNMP, more reliable than using a CLI, and less expensive to develop with than either of them.”
NETCONF (RFC 4741) is an IETF standard developed to meet the increasing need for automated configuration management in modern enterprise and carrier networks. Designed from the ground-up to address these needs, NETCONF provides the foundation for the transformation from manual to highly automated network operations.
“We are very pleased to partner with WebNMS and help NETCONF-enable their industry leading EMS/NMS framework,” said Carl Moberg, COO,Tail-f Systems. “Support for NETCONF is becoming a requirement among enterprise and carrier networks seeking to scale their operations efficiency and reduce the risk inherent in manual configuration by applying automation to common configuration tasks.”
The WebNMS Framework is used by development teams to build element and network management systems in a cost effective and efficient manner. ConfM is a Java-based software application that allows developers to augment EMS/NMS applications with support for the NETCONF protocol. By adding NETCONF to the set of supported protocols, network equipment manufacturers and telecommunications carriers using WebNMS can now define and execute automated tasks using the NETCONF protocol for transaction safe configuration changes.
One of the many additional benefits of using NETCONF over previously available protocols is the support for transactions across configuration changes, ensuring the consistency of the configuration of all devices in the network, and eliminating the risk of outages related to manual configuration tasks.
